Biography

Sylwia Herbst is a visual artist based in Palm Harbor, Florida, known for her expressive, intuitive acrylic paintings that evoke emotion and spark imagination. Her journey began with long visits to the Chicago Art Museum, where she found deep inspiration in the works of Impressionist masters like Monet and Renoir.

Though she initially pursued a career in finance—earning a Master’s Degree from The American University in Washington, D.C.—Sylwia eventually returned to her first love: painting. Starting with realism and impressionism, she gradually embraced a more spontaneous, expressionist approach, allowing each piece to unfold through intuition rather than planning.

Today, her dreamy and uplifting works live in private collections and are recognized for their energy, depth, and soul-nourishing presence. Guided by the belief that art can be a source of emotional healing, Sylwia creates original paintings and prints that inspire inner strength, peace, beauty, and emotional well-being. Her mission is simple: art for the soul.

About the Process

Most often I paint without a preconceived idea of what I want to see on my canvas. I like to create my paintings spontaneously rather than planning out, sketching and rendering a piece. I paint from imagination as opposed to observation of something in front of me.

When inspiration strikes, I'm guided by the feelings and openness of the mind and portray whatever appears. I see colorful images of what seems like different worlds and universes, and aim to communicate the sentiment of the scenery.

With each piece I hope to ignite imagination and bring about emotional well-being not only for me, but also for the person viewing the painting.

All paintings are acrylic on canvas. The paint continues over the edge so the piece can be hung without a frame if desired. I use primed gallery wrapped canvas and an acrylic medium to prevent crazing (cracking of the paint as it dries).

The artwork is of archival quality, meaning resistant to deterioration or loss of quality, allowing for a long life expectancy.

Each original piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and is ready to hang.
